NYC is also getting the Joga fever, a vending machine selling soccer balls at 20 bucks was spotted there. All of the proceeds will go to maintenance and repair of the Chelsea Piers fields in New York. It would be nice to see these vending machines in Singapore with the proceeds improving our playing conditions.

CCTV is the in thing!

In London, 50 wi-fi enabled CCTV cameras were installed at central London. It was a 18 month trial, and within that trial they arrested a drug dealer. CCTV has also helped to capture evidence in a recent political fiasco and also aid in the arrest of the peeping tom in NTU.

It appears CCTV is in. Big Brother is necessary to keep the country gracious and safe. And privacy is out. We might really start to see CCTVs in our buses and MRTs. And all the better the reason to raise the transport prices I hope not!

There are so many web applications and services out there. From time to time, we might find one that is useful. Let's discover some.

Ourmedia

It allows us to publish and store video and audio content. At the same time, discovering works of others. Be sure to submit creative works because they are pretty strict on copyrighted content.

Fold

Fold is one of the many customized startpages that allows one to add RSS feeds, tagged photos and sticky notes.

EyeOS

EyeOS is a web based desktop system. One can access data and applications anywhere, anytime, working off the browser.

Funtigo

Another photo sharing website but an added functionality is Funtigo allows users to create an online photo scrap book that one can share with as a webpage.

Atlas

I like the concept of Fresh Logic Studios' Altas. It is like Google Maps with added features of finding gas prices, movies, and Wi-Fi spots.

Feedwhip

Apart from creating RSS feeds, Feedwhip detects changes in a webpage and sends an email alert. Useful so that one doesn't have to keep clicking back the webpage to find new stuff.

Starterbase

It lets you design web application to organise data. Manage notes, to-do-lists, contacts lists, bookmarks, spreadsheets, forms etc. It also sends out RSS feeds.

Web2Messenger

The services sends messages from the web to MSN messenger. Apart from that, it also creates a status image to display on websites one's online status.

BackupMyBlog

As it suggest, it backups one's blog, automatically, daily.

Dogs that can sniff out DVDs

Here's a warning to all of you who buy DVDs from our neighbours and bring them back here to Singapore, illegally that is. Watch out for the doggies. They can now sniff out DVDs as reported by MPAA.

From the MPAA press release:
"...training of two black Labradors named Lucky and Flo by one of the world's leading experts in the field whose other clients include police, fire and rescue service. The dogs were trained over an eight month period to identify DVDs that may be located in boxes, envelopes or other packaging, as well as discs concealed amongst other goods..."

Who knows we might see these dogs at our causeway man.

Books for people who can only read 1 syllable words!

Mary Godolphin rewrote Robinson Crusoe the book using only words of one syllable. She rewrote other books too like The Pilgrim's Progress and The Swiss Family Robinson. Finally, people who can only read 1 syllable words will finally have books available for them. But definately kudos to her for managing to avoid the words "Robinson Crusoe" in the whole book.

It is not ~~easy~~ fun to write in ~~one syllable word~~ words that are said in one breath, as you can see in my ~~desperate attempt~~ bad try at it.

I certainly can't wait for this network television show to hit Singapore (or to be able to download it on YouTube!).

American Inventor, similar to American Idol's concept, is for the geeks, whereby they compete to be the best inventor. I think we will certainly get to see some really good inventions and designs! I remember back 10-15 years ago, there was a show called "Why didn't I think of that?" showcasing really cool inventions by everyday people. Singapore soon followed with a version of its own. Oh, I enjoyed those shows throughly.

Like I said, I am looking forward to American Inventor and who knows, maybe Singapore Inventor too?

Need a good scienticfic calculator? Calcoolate, true to its slogan is the coolest calculator on the web! It keeps full tracks of all previous calculations and you can replace your boring windows calculator with this one!

This application certainly takes web to the next level. Feed43 allows one to create RSS feeds for webpages without feeds already. Certainly we'll never miss the lastest headlines from anywhere the web ever.

Online applications like Powerbullet, Thumbstacks and Writely are office applications which challenges Powerpoint and Word. These useful applications can certainly save one big bucks from purchasing Microsoft Office.

Not the least, Casual Courier a domain that arranges for your packages to be delivered cheaply and efficiently. Excellent concept and reminds us how our lives have been changed with technology.

There's a number of calendar applications on the web that allows both online and offline organisation of one's life. Been looking it around for the most suitable to my needs. I am currently using 30 Boxes with Yahoo! Calendar.

The other really good calendars out there I've tried like Goowy took quite a while to load.

Planzo has a funny demo version of George Bush's calendar. Zoho creator has very good flexibilty as it allows high customibility. Skobee however would be one good for group calendars.

Outlook is probably the oldest PC calendar planner around and the compatibilty it has with devices is very extensive highly recommended as well. Really forgetful till you need a reminder every time you look into your monitor? Desktask is a nifty application that places your tasks on your desktop, pretty neat.

Another very good recommendation would be Spongecell which I recently discovered. Nice and simple interface.

Road Trip

Road Trip

Today I toured around Singapore on my trusty bike. Actually the
agenda was to collect 3 items I bid on Yahoo! Auctions. A Panasonic
Lumix FX1, a ladies tank top and more ladies clothes. No I'm not gay
nor am I into cross-dressing... more will be revealed in due time.

The red track was the route I took.

1st stop was Ubi techpark, which I had to reach there at 1300hrs.
Was slightly late but the seller was a really nice lady.

2nd checkpoint was Sembawang MRT, had to reach
at 1600hrs. I reached there before 1500hrs. Underestimated myself.
The seller, another nice guy came over earlier for my convenience.

3rd checkpoint was supposed to be Choa Chu Kang but I made a
wrong turn and ended up in Bukit Panjang. Informed the seller who
again was another nice lady, agreed to meet at Bukit Panjang.

Headed home after a satisfying afternoon of transactions. The
weather was perfect. Clocked - 4hrs 25mins 42 sec of riding time,
average speed - 16.9km/h, Max Speed - 43.5km/h, Mileage -
74.98km.

I came up with a theory that Singapore is small enough to be able to
cycle from one point to another in under 3 hours. Challenge me.
Well, hope to ride to Malaysia up to Thailand one day. Livestrong.

Amazing Race

For those of you who commute the MRT everyday to and fro to work during peak hours I understand how you feel. It sucks having to fight for your place to get on the train. If you don't squeeze like the rest, you will never get onboard. You will end up a loser like me and probably board the 5th train that comes along.

But I don't know which is worst; having to squeeze to get onboard or pushing and shoving to alight. I especially hate the f***ers that line themselves in front of the door and push their way in before people can even alight. Use a bit of commom sense, you allow the people to alight then you will have the space to board the train, not you stand in my way, I stand in yours and you push me I push you!

I am ashamed to see such ungracious acts. The best part is the people who are actually guilty of these acts are educated people. Shame on you if you are guilty of it.

Don't have to join amazing race, my race to work and back home is amazing enough already. No 2 train rides are the same. You never know what you are going to get.
